LECTURE: INSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS / QUESTIONING INSTITUTIONS
October 25 , 2019 | Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) | Milwaukee, WI
This presentation by Strange Fire Collective, titled Institutional Questions / Questioning Institutions will focus on broad concerns that mirror the collective's mission to challenge power, institutions, and access. Pulling from Strange Fire's archive of 200+ interviews, the collective will address three topics through an intersectional lens: Policing Bodies, Political Action, and Access to Power. Each topic will be addressed through the work and words of artists, curators, and writers who engage these questions from unique and diverse perspectives. Ultimately, this will also prove an exercise on how the Strange Fire platform can serve as an educational resource to address complex topics in the classroom with an intersectional approach.
This presentation is both part of MIAD’s Creative Series—which brings distinctive and internationally renowned creatives to Milwaukee to engage the community in new ways of thinking about, and appreciating, the arts—and is a keynote presentation at the Society of Photographic Education’s Midwest Chapter Conference.
