In October 2019 Strange Fire was invited by the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to curate an exhibition and a series of programs. Aligned with Strange Fire’s fourth anniversary, the collective presented In this body of mine, and exhibition highlighting 14 artists whose work represents the breadth of Strange Fire’s mission and values. However, this left out a large part of our story and mission, the vast archive—representing hundreds of artists and scholars—that now makes up Strange Fire. Inspired by Felix Gonzales-Torres’ enduring practice, the exhibition included a series of printed posters featuring work by nearly 100 artists from the Strange Fire archive, which visitors were encouraged to take. While In this body of mine is on view, Strange Fire released its 200th weekly interview; the archive is always available for free online at strangefirecollective.com.
